BMW driver question
I would like information on the steps and pricing you use when you want to repair an engine. I am in a situation where my BMW 5 is “taking” oil. From what I have heard from several people, the engine needs to be replaced (some kind of defect). Is it immediately apparent that such a replacement is necessary? How could you help/advise in such a situation? As a last resort, how much would it cost to price and replace the old engine (if it was needed)?
The problem was with a 2012 BMW 550i F10, but it can happen in other models as well.

My BMW with automatic transmission, on cold engine flips from P (park mode) to D (drive mode), without jerking, and when warm – jerks. The second problem is in fourth, and fifth gear. The transmission does not want to drop into fifth, it just saws the engine at maximum rpm. This also happens between gears 3-4. I should add that with manual gear changes, everything is OK. What is the problem?

I would like to ask about the durability of the valve train on the BMW 5 F10. Is it necessary to replace in this engine as in the N47 engine of the BMW 5 Series E60? If so, after what mileage and what is the approximate cost of such a repair?

For some time now, I have been hearing soft knocks at slow speeds and feeling a slight vibration. After slightly adding gas, the problem stops. I should add that the engine dies and fires evenly, so the pulley should be fine. Could a worn tensioner pulley be the cause of the malfunction?

I am after an engine swap from a BMW E36 to a BMW E46. There is a small problem with the electrical system and I don’t really know how to connect the cables to make it all work. The swap was supposedly done by mechanics and they made a horrible mess in the engine connection box to the car.

I would like to ask about the topic of engine temperature: earlier I noticed that the oil temperature pointer turns slightly to the right when driving harder. Today I was also using my car a little harder, and after arriving home and turning it off in the garage, I heard that suddenly as I got out of the car, the engine cooling (fans in the front) turned on, at full speed. This alarmed me and I spent the 3 minutes to go into the hidden menu and check the temperature reading:

I have a small problem with adaptive lights. The car was gently damaged, the lamp was replaced and all the modules were rearranged. Everything seemingly works, only the message “cornering illumination failure” pops up and the halogen does not work. When connected to the computer, several errors pop up. My question is whether it is necessary to code the controllers in some way, or is it rather a result of the impact and the module to be replaced?

I am writing regarding a problem that arose with the DPF after visiting two workshops. I received different suggestions from the mechanics about the air cleaner. One says not to replace it, while the other absolutely recommends it, as it affects the cleanliness of the air intake. Please advise.

The car after a long stop does not start. No possibility to turn the starter. The lights do not come on. It looks like a discharged battery. After charging the battery no change. The car had all the doors locked for a few days, but probably not locked from the remote control. Could this have been the reason for the discharged battery? How to start the car? I’m struggling with a front suspension problem on my BMW E39 530i Touring car. The front ground clearance is way too high, about 3-4 cm compared to serial. According to the VIN, the car was serially equipped with the S227A (Sport suspension lowered ride-height) suspension option.
