The problem is with the cruise control (regular). While driving (once in a while) a cruise control error appears – cruise control inoperative. The error appears whether the cruise control is currently in use or not. After the cruise control warning appears, any response to trying to turn on the cruise control is missing.

My comfort control module is damaged, if you can call it that. Can the controller from another vehicle in the same series be reprogrammed so that all components work?
