Problems with “comfort modules” in BMW after replacing them – how to solve it?

BMW driver question

My comfort control module is damaged, if you can call it that. Can the controller from another vehicle in the same series be reprogrammed so that all components work? At the moment, everything that should work does not, and the rest “lives its own life”. If necessary, I will bear the cost of programming. Please help.

The question applies to all component transplant operations between BMW cars.

BM Cars service response

Replacement of controllers in BMW cars especially in newer models (manufactured after 2000) requires their programming and coding (assignment to the vehicle VIN number).

When replacing the controller with a new or used one, we must first of all properly select the controller and then code it. Only then will all functions work properly, and the controller will be seen and supported by the rest of the vehicle.

Body controllers – often called comfort modules – must be selected not only according to the vehicle’s equipment, but also of similar vintage. The numerous design changes made by BMW in their successive versions mean that even when coded correctly, they will not support certain functions or this support will be incorrect.

It is also unacceptable to use controllers from English, Asian or American cars in European models. The easiest method of selecting a used driver is to follow the part number of the corresponding driver, taking into account previous part numbers. If you have any problems with the selection, we can help you.
