Vibration of BMW cars with N63 engine – what is the reason and how to fix it?
BMW driver’s question – vehicle vibration with the N63 engine
I own a BMW with an automatic transmission. After warming up the car, I feel the vehicle vibration, but not on the steering wheel. After taking my foot off the accelerator and during braking, when I switch to N mode, the vibration stops. What is the reason for this behavior of my car?
The problem affected the BMW 5 F07 (Grand Turismo version) with the N63 engine, but it may also occur in other models.
Response from BM Cars service – reasons for vibration of BMW cars with N63
From the description, it seems that the vibration is felt when the engine is running at idle and loaded. In models with N63 engines, problems of uneven engine operation at idle due to misfiring occur quite often. With an eight-cylinder engine, such a phenomenon is felt as shuddering.
It can be exacerbated when the engine is loaded
- drive or reverse (R) mode engaged,
- air conditioning compressor running,
- load on the power steering pump when the wheels are turned hard.
Misfiring can be caused by problems with fuel injectors, coils, spark plugs or low compression.
All of these phenomena occur frequently in this engine model even with low mileage of 50-60,000 kilometers. The fuel injectors as well as the ignition coils were replaced as part of BMW AG’s Technical Action.
A full computer diagnosis of the vehicle is necessary for an accurate diagnosis.
