Response from BM Cars service

The most common cause of creaking noises in the rear suspension on X5 and E39 models are worked out control arm bushings and brackets, the so-called "L-brackets". The working out of these components can additionally manifest as rear suspension knocking and oversteer in the rear of the vehicle. Repairing the defect involves replacing the bushings and brackets.
