What does BMW suspension repair involve?

Wheel suspension in BMW cars includes an assembly of control arms, shock absorbers, stabilizer bars and links, metal-rubber bushings. Some models additionally have components designed to increase driving comfort, for example, active stabilizer elements, air suspension cushions, shock absorbers with variable damping characteristics.

Repair involves the replacement of damaged/worn components, preceded by a computer diagnosis. Only worn suspension components are replaced. The exceptions are shock absorbers and diagonal control arm bushings, which are subject to replacement in pairs. After replacing suspension components, it is usually necessary to adjust the geometry of the front and rear wheels.

What does steering repair in BMW consist of?

The steering system in BMW cars consists of a steering column connected to the steering wheel and steering gear, as well as steering rods. An additional component is also the power steering pump (integrated with the transmission in newer models). Steering repair involves replacing worn or damaged components. After replacing the steering rods or transmission, it is necessary to adjust the wheel alignment.

What is the remanufacturing of steering gears and power steering pumps in BMW?

The most common fault of power steering pumps is their leakage and oil leaks caused by it. Then remanufacturing involves replacing seals and verifying the wear of moving parts. Sometimes there is a seizing effect on the pump and a drop in the pressure of the oil fed to the steering gear. Then remanufacturing includes replacement of vane drive components and bearings.

In the steering gears of most BMW models, there appears already after a small mileage the play on the gear strip. Usually this play does not increase over a long period of operation, however, it gives the sound effects of knocks coming from the steering when driving with the wheels turned. Reconditioning should include replacing the pinion gear strip and seals.
