After a BMW break-in attempt, should the locks be replaced or repaired?

BMW driver’s question

The door lock and ignition on my BMW were damaged in an attempted theft. Fortunately, the car did not drive away, but the locks were damaged. In this case, should I repair the existing locks or replace them? Please advise, as I have conflicting information on this subject.

The problem is with the BMW 320d E46, but it also occurs in other models.

Response from BM Cars service

During the theft attempt, the thief could make a lock cylinder. She will allow you to make a key, so the car will not be safe.

We advise you to replace the set of keys and locks with new ones, including the trunk lock and immobilizer (EWS). Only such a procedure will give us confidence in the security of standard preventive systems.

Additional protection can be provided by a second immobilizer and satellite monitoring, which we also offer in our service.
