Message about the possibility of damage to the catalytic converter – what does it mean and how to repair it?
BMW driver question
When starting the car, a message is displayed that rapid acceleration can damage the catalytic converter: “avoid speed acceleration can damage catalisator”. What could be the cause of such a message? At the same time, I will point out that the engine began to make strange noises.
The problem affected the BMW 735i, but also occurs in other models.
BM Cars service response
The message about the possibility of catalytic converter damage in gasoline engines usually appears when the lambda probes transmit information to the engine controller about improper exhaust gas composition.
The reason can be either improper fuel quality, a problem with the injection or ignition system, or even damage to the probe. Such a message can also appear when the catalytic converter is already “clogged” and its reduced permeability, does not allow the exhaust gases to be pushed out fast enough.
To solve the problem, it is necessary to perform a full computer diagnosis of the engine.
