BMW driver question – the key remote does not open the car

In my car, the remote control does not close and open the doors remotely. Opening and closing with the arrowhead of the driver’s door and the button from the cabin works properly. The radio works properly. Antenna module checked by ECUDoctor in Myslowice.

Voltages on the antenna module plug measured and are correct. Battery voltage at rest 12.5 volts, battery voltage at key 3.05 volts. There are two original keys for the car and both do not work remotely. How to fix it?

The remote door locking and opening system on the BMW 3 E90 is operated by:

• the transmitter in the key,
• the antenna in the vehicle,
• antenna amplifier,
• interference filter,
• serial eliminator,
• junction Box controller,
• door and trunk locks.

A malfunction in any of these components and the connections between them can lead to a system malfunction and subsequent unresponsiveness when trying to remotely lock or open the vehicle.

If the central locking system works controlled by a button from inside the vehicle or when closing mechanically (with a key blade), we can eliminate the malfunction of the door locks.

Also important for finding the cause of the malfunction is the fact that it occurred for the first time and the circumstances surrounding it. Sometimes problems with the functioning of the central locking system from the remote control appear due to radio interference in the place where the vehicle is parked. Such situations can arise especially in areas with strong magnetic fields due to, for example, monitoring or alarm systems. Such situations can occur at gas stations or supermarket parking lots.

In this case, taking into account the work already done on the antenna amplifier and batteries in the keys, we recommend taking the following measures:

1. Full computer diagnostics of the vehicle.
2. Checking with a tester the operation of the keys to the full extent.
3. Checking the Junction Box module.

If malfunctions are found in the above-mentioned points, it is necessary to replace or repair the diagnosed components.
