Jerking and delayed response of automatic transmission in BMW – how to fix?

BMW driver question

I am constantly tormented by a problem with the automatic transmission, namely the transmission makes noise at slow speed – on P and N and when putting D into gear, you have to wait about 3 seconds. When the transmission warms up well the car from D starts with a little slip and jerk. How to fix it?

The problem affected a 1999r BMW E38 730D in Automatic, but it happens in other models as well.

Response from BM Cars service

The symptoms you described are indicative of a malfunctioning transmission.

The automatic transmission, after engaging D or R gear, should immediately, without any delay, transmit drive to the wheels and perceptibly try (despite the brake being pressed) to move the vehicle. Both jerking, delay in response, let alone noises coming from the transmission are unacceptable. He suggests checking the level and quality of the oil in the box (first). If the oil quality and level are correct, it is necessary to dismantle the box and verify its components.

Continued operation of the box with such behavior will soon lead to complete damage to the box. At BM Cars, we offer static and dynamic oil changes in automatics, as well as replacement of the transmission with a manual one. We invite you to learn more about the details.
