BMW’s iDrive module knob is unresponsive – how to fix it?
BMW driver question
Navigation doesn’t work, I can’t enter the options menu. Only the radio and air conditioning settings work. When pressing the iDrive joystick, nothing happens. What could be the reason and how to fix it?
The problem was in the BMW 320d E90 150 hp, but it can occur in all BMWs with the iDrive module.
BM Cars service response
The described fault is probably related to a defect in the iDrive module. This is the keypad used to control the audio system, navigation and services offered on the central display.
The most common malfunction of this module is its flooding (drinks, water) as a result, there is damage to the micro switches and electronics located inside the module.
Since the iDrive is located in this model on the fiber-optic line connecting the audio, display, navigation, phone and other systems, it is also necessary to check for damage and interruption of the light signal in the other modules.
For an accurate diagnosis, it is necessary to fully diagnose the vehicle and check the modules.
