Blocking gas pedal in BMW – what is the reason and how to fix it?
BMW driver question
When starting and shifting more gears, the accelerator pedal locks up slightly. You have to push it harder to make the car go, which involves constant jerking. When I increase the revs, regardless of the gear, the car jerks. It throws it back and forth, very hard, as if it is about to die. What could be the cause?
The problem affected a BMW E46 318 1.9 model, but it also happens in other models.
Response from BM Cars service
The problem you described may be related to:
- a jammed gas line
- a problem with the throttle.
On the E46, the accelerator pedal is purely mechanical and connected by an accelerator cable to the throttle. To make an accurate diagnosis and estimate the cost of repair, a full engine diagnostic is necessary.
