Freshly replaced DPF in BMW, clogged again in a short time – what is the reason?
BMW driver question
My BMW had its DPF filter replaced with a new model from JMJ. After almost two months, the filter light on the dashboard came on. I filed a complaint with the mechanic, who stated that “the lambda probe and glow plug controller are defective”. After replacing these parts, trying to burn out the filter does not work. In addition, it turns out that the light comes on even without the engine running (on the ignition itself). Does this mean that the filter needs to be replaced once again?
The problem affected the BMW 5 E60, but it can happen in other models as well.
Response from BM Cars service
The problem described by you is complex. After replacing the DPF with a new one, it was necessary to check the remaining fixed errors in the engine controller, such as the glow plug controller error and the lambda probe.
In addition, you should always check the cleanliness of the intake system and the efficiency of the injection system to eliminate the causes of another clogging of the new DPF. A faulty glow plug controller or other fixed DDE controller error will cause the automatic DPF afterburning mode to fail to engage.
If the vehicle is operated with such an error, another filter can be clogged for a short distance. A similar situation will occur if there is a large amount of engine oil in the intake system (inoperable oil filter) or inoperable injectors (too high correction).
A DPF light that comes on immediately after the ignition is turned on without starting the engine may additionally indicate a problem with the operation of the lambda probe or the DPF pressure/temperature sensor.
For an accurate diagnosis, however, it is necessary to perform a full engine and vehicle diagnostics.
