Excessive fuel consumption and a hot catalytic converter in a BMW – how to fix it?

I have a problem with my BMW 428i. The engine is shaking at idle, making suspicious noises, there is excessive fuel consumption and the catalytic converter is heating up. Diagnostics show that there is too much fuel. My question is whether this engine model (N26) also had a faulty valve train?

The problem was with a 2013 BMW 428i F32, but it can happen in other models.

From the description of the engine’s behavior provided, it rather seems that the problem is on the side of the fuel injectors, which dose too much or too long a dose of fuel, causing the catalytic converter to heat up and consume a lot of fuel.

Long operation of the engine under such conditions can lead to engine damage and permanent damage to the catalytic converter. The N26 engines also suffered from a timing problem, mainly a stretched chain driving the oil pump. In extreme cases, this led to its breakage and a rapid drop in oil pressure in the engine.

For an accurate diagnosis, a full engine diagnostic is necessary.
