I own a BMW with a 2.0 gasoline engine and 170,000 km driven. Everything is OK, only after igniting the engine for a minute it goes a little louder. I think the sound is coming from the exhaust manifold side.

When the car is turned off and the whole audio (DVD, changer, radio) is closed/open, it cycles on every 1 min or so. The DVD player in the trunk turns on and you can hear it working, its LEDs also indicate this. After a while it turns off (current consumption drops to 0.5 A) and starts up again. Current consumption is then at about 3-2.5 A, and so on and so forth.
