Can’t open the sunroof in BMW – how to fix it?
BMW driver’s question – sunroof and discharged battery
The car stood for a long time with the phone charger plugged into the cigarette lighter socket and the sunroof open. After a few hours, it became apparent that the engine could not be started.
After firing it up with the help of the other car and the wires connected to the clamps and driving a few kilometers, everything returned to normal except the sunroof. I closed it at some point while trying to start it when the battery was discharged. Since then it cannot be opened in any way and the sunroof error icon appears.
The initialization described on the Internet and in the vehicle book by pressing the sunroof tilt button for a long time does not help. After about 20 seconds something clicks and the error pops up – without any movement of the sunroof. I tried to start initializing the sunroof through the computer, but the errors keep popping up.
The problem was on a BMW E90 320i, but it may also occur on other models.
BM Cars service response – solutions to sunroof problems
The described problem with the sunroof indeed suggests the lack of its correct initialization. Particularly since it occurred while the battery was discharged and the engine was having trouble starting.
We suggest performing a full diagnostic of the vehicle and attempting to initialize it with a computer and up-to-date diagnostic software. While doing so, you can also detect drive and steering problems. This will allow you to locate the problem and repair the appropriate components.
