How to properly take care of a BMW with automatic transmission and xDrive?
BMW driver’s question
Wanting to take the utmost care of my vehicle, I would like to ask about some operational issues related to the drive.
- Should I change the oil in the automatic transmission in my car? If so, then every how many kilometers?
- Should I change the oil in the differentials in an xDrive? If so, then every how many kilometers? Also, how do I generally take care of the xDrive?
- Do the original TPMS sensors (the car left the showroom with them) have the ability to adapt to particular locations? More specifically – if the wheel from the left side is moved to the right side, will the readings be correct? Will the car still read the wheel on the left as the one on the right?
The problem concerned the BMW M135i xDrive model with automatic transmission, but it may also occur in other models.

Response from BM Cars service
- Yes, oil should be changed every 60-70,000 km under normal operating conditions (mixed city/highway driving, no trailer towing, no sports driving). In the case of the M-series vehicle, which have significantly increased horsepower and torque mileage between oil changes, should be shorter.
- Yes, the oil in the front and rear axle should be changed at most every 200,000 km, the oil in the VTG (xDrive) box at most every 70,000 km. The general operating assumptions of BMW with xDrive, are the same as in the first point.
- Pressure sensors in new BMW models are assigned to the position of the wheel in the vehicle, any change in the location of the wheel requires re-adaptation (assignment) of the sensor to the new position.
