BMW does not open / close by pressing the key (remote control)

BMW driver question

I can’t open or close my car with the key fob. I know there could be quite a few causes. I checked the diversity antenna under the spoiler and made sure there is no moisture there. This module was replaced in 2014. I also opened the key itself and checked the battery voltage – it is about 3.2V. What could be the cause of such errors?

The problem concerned the BMW E61 5 Series, but it also happens in other models.

Response from BM Cars service

The problem of not opening/closing the vehicle from the key can be caused by many different faults. The most common is damage to the transmitter in the key. Failure to skillfully open the key and attempt to replace the battery yourself usually results in permanent damage. Batteries in E60/E61 model keys are non-replaceable. If the key is damaged, order a new key directly from BMW through the BMW Authorized Service Network.

Another cause of the described problems may be a lack of communication with the vehicle. The antenna and diversity antenna amplifier are only components of the entire system for receiving the radio signal and transmitting it to the body controller. The absence of moisture around the diversity amplifier does not at all determine its efficiency.

The final component of the system is the door actuators, whose failure is also common, not only in the E61.

For an accurate diagnosis, it is necessary to perform a full computer diagnostics of the vehicle and check the installation between the described controllers.
