What is the normal operating temperature of the engine in the BMW 5?

I would like to ask about the topic of engine temperature: earlier I noticed that the oil temperature pointer turns slightly to the right when driving harder. Today I was also using my car a little harder, and after arriving home and turning it off in the garage, I heard that suddenly as I got out of the car, the engine cooling (fans in the front) turned on, at full speed. This alarmed me and I spent the 3 minutes to go into the hidden menu and check the temperature reading:

• Coolant (coolant): 105 degrees,
• Oil: 103 degrees.

But isn’t that a little too high? It’s possible that the DPF was burning out, as I’ve been driving mostly locally lately and today’s route was the first longer one. I’m a little surprised that I don’t get any error message when the coolant temperature is above 100 degrees.

Please let me know if these are correct values.

The described behavior of the vehicle after driving (turning on the electric fan) is as correct as possible. The opening temperature of the thermostat in the BMW 5 F10 is 87℃. Only at this temperature do we have a large coolant circuit running.

In new BMW engines, the operating temperature of the coolant can exceed 100 degrees – this is within acceptable standards. Therefore, it is very important to maintain the right density of coolant and use the right quality of fluids. Their boiling point is significantly raised compared to the boiling point of ordinary water.

With harsh operation and high ambient temperatures, it can reach 110 degrees or more. In addition, you should be cautious about the data readings from the hidden menu, which are often skewed from the actual values.
