Malfunctioning cruise control in BMW 5 – what is the reason?

BMW driver question

The problem is with the cruise control (regular). While driving (once in a while) a cruise control error appears – cruise control inoperative. The error appears whether the cruise control is currently in use or not. After the cruise control warning appears, any response to trying to turn on the cruise control is missing.

When I turn off and restart the car, the error is gone, and I can use the cruise control until the error appears again. The ISTA-D diagnostic program shows the error: 002F4F – cruise speed – reliability (details: Error temporarily absent, Unreliable signal or value. The error does not cause the warning lamp (MIL) to light). There are no other errors. Please advise.

The problem was with a 2004 BMW 5 E60 with an automatic transmission, but it can also happen with other models.

BM Cars service response

Assuming that the diagnosis was performed correctly, the situation described suggests that there is a problem with the vehicle’s speed reading. Marking the error as momentary suggests a problem on the side of the electrical system, a short circuit, too high resistance (green pins) or other similar faults.

Performed diagnostics using the ISTA system, it suggests the next steps to fix the fault. However, for safety reasons and to be sure of a well-executed repair, we recommend servicing your BMW with specialists.
