How durable is the timing on the BMW 430i F36?
BMW driver question
Does anyone perhaps know what the timing issue is on the BMW 430i F36? What are the costs and after what mileage?
The question came in the form of a comment under our advice on the durability of the valve train in BMW.
BM Cars service response
As with other modern gasoline engines, BMW has not stipulated periodic replacement of timing chains and components. The F36 model with the 3.0i engine (B48B20) does not experience the problem as massively as the older gasoline or 2.0d engines.
Possible valve train noises usually appear after mileages approaching 200,000 kilometers. However, even at lower mileages, the engine should be observed and if strange noises like rattling, ringing or rattling occur, check the condition of the valve train at a service center that specializes in servicing the BMW brand.
