Non-closing door and immobilized mirror in BMW – how to fix?
BMW driver question
Some time ago in my car there was a problem with the right front door. Once they close, once they do not. I have already educated myself a little on where to look for the cause, but this is not where my question lies. Along with them, the right mirror stopped working. I can change the alignment, but when I put it in reverse gear, the mirror should lower, but it doesn’t. Do these two malfunctions have anything to do with each other? Please advise.
The problem was with a 2005 BMW 5 E60, but it can happen with other models as well.
Response from BM Cars service
The described problem with locking the right front door may be related to a defect in the actuator in the combination lock. This is a defect that most often occurs in E60 and E90 models. The symptoms are problems with closing or opening, which occur randomly in the initial stage. Sometimes there is also a blockage in the mechanism and the fuse protecting the body module is blown when trying to open or close the door remotely. Replacing the fuse does not solve the problem. The only repair option is to replace the lock.
The problem with lowering the right mirror while reversing may be related to the disabling of this function on the driver’s door mirror control panel. The mirror operation switch must be set to the position – right mirror. If, despite the correct setting of the switch, the mirror does not lower, this may indicate that the mechanism is seized or damaged. In the BMW catalog, the mirror adjustment/lowering mechanism itself is available (for some models).
For an accurate diagnosis, it is necessary to carry out a complete diagnosis of the indicated components.
