Floating rear end in BMW – what is the cause and how to fix it?

BMW driver question

The car floats on bumps (it’s about the rear). Replaced shock absorbers and rear beam bushings, and the problem still remains. What could be the cause?

The fault is related to BMW 523i E39 touring, but it also happens in other models.

Response from BM Cars service

The problem with the “floating” of the rear in the E39 is usually associated with the occurrence of play on the control arm brackets so-called L-brackets or upper rear control arms. The resulting play in the vertical axis of the wheel then causes its oversteer in corners and when overcoming longitudinal bumps – ruts. In addition, it is necessary to check the geometry of the rear suspension.
