“No Start” and “No Start 1000 miles” message in BMW – what does it mean?

BMW driver question

The message “No Start 1000 miles” appeared in my BMW. I did not pay attention, but the kilometers in this message were decreasing while driving. After a while, I could no longer start the engine. Then the “No Start” message appeared and a picture of exhaust gas coming out of the tailpipe, with droplets above it. Please help.

The problem is with the BMW E90 version of the 335 Diesel, but it also happens in other models.

Response from BM Cars service

BMW cars with M57Y engines in the US version have a diesel particulate filter (DPF) booster system, which is fed with AdBlue. The solution is commonly used in trucks. Such a design was enforced by the stringent U.S. clean exhaust gas standards.

The tank with AdBlue preparation was mounted in the rear bumper on the left side and marked with an information sign near the filler. The capacity of the tank is 5l, and according to BMW, this amount of preparation should be sufficient for about 5,000 – 6,000 km. The reduction of the amount of preparation in the tank to the level indicated by the sensor is displayed in the form of a message:

No Start 1000 miles

The message is important in that it is impossible to start the engine after the kilometer/mile limit has been exceeded. AdBlue preparation is available at most gas stations in Poland in packages from 5 – 30 l, and at larger chain stations directly from the designated distributor.

We will be happy to help you check that everything is in order, despite the lack of AdBlue fluid. You are welcome to schedule a visit to our service center.
