Can you tow a BMW with an automatic transmission?
BMW driver question
I have a BMW 7 with an automatic transmission and I need to have it towed to you. Will nothing happen to the transmission? How can I unlock it?
The problem affects all BMW models with automatic transmission.
Response from BM Cars service
The design of the automatic transmission does not allow towing the vehicle. During towing, the oil temperature increases excessively causing permanent damage to the transmission components.
The vehicle should be delivered on a trailer. To pull the car onto the trailer, there is an emergency unlocking system for the automatic transmission. The orange switch strip is located in the glove box located on the left side near the hood opening lever.
