Steering wheel pulling in BMW – what is the reason and how to fix it?

BMW driver question

I have a problem with my car. When braking, the steering wheel shakes, pulls to the left and wags the car. I have checked everything possible and still the same thing. I replaced the discs with ATE, pads, put on other wheels, replaced the bearings with hubs, checked the shaft support and flexible links, the suspension checked at three diagnostic stations. Please help, because the services spread their hands.

The problem affected the BMW 3 E91 Touring model, but it also happens in other models.

Response from BM Cars service

The problem you described is quite complex, i.e. many different defects can cause the same symptom – “pulling” the car under braking.
The most common reason is uneven distribution of braking force, caused by a seized brake caliper. The damage is relatively easy to detect, for example, during a brake force measurement at a diagnostic station.

Similar “pulling” symptoms can be caused by misaligned front suspension geometry. Additional loading on the front axle during braking causes the vehicle to pull to one side.

A vehicle with significantly worn front shock absorbers behaves similarly, with a large damping difference of more than 30%, the pulling effect of rocking to one side is common.

However, an accurate unambiguous diagnosis can be made only after visual inspection and diagnostics of the vehicle.

We invite you to take advantage of our service.
