Excessive oil consumption in BMW – what is the reason and how to fix it?
BMW driver question
I have a 2005 car, mileage 86000 km and I noticed that my oil is disappearing. I am using castrol 5w30. What could be the reason for the consumption of about 1 liter per 1000 km? This is probably not in the norm?
The problem affected a BMW E90 320i, but it happens in other models as well.
Response from BM Cars service
The oil consumption you described is certainly not the norm in BMW engines.
The causes of wear can be many. Ranging from cylinder liner wear, baked piston rings, to worn valve seals. A common malfunction in 2.0i engines is wear of the air cleaner and leakage of oil into the intake manifold.
To determine the specific fault in your engine, a diagnosis at a service center is necessary.
