Wake-up and power consumption problems in BMW – how to fix it?

BMW driver question

For the past few weeks I have been having a problem with a common fault with power consumption. The car, after going to sleep, after a few minutes awakens and draws from 3 to 8 amps. Discharging overnight a new battery so called a hundred.

At first I thought it was due to the IBS clamp. After unhooking it there was peace for 6 months. Unfortunately, the problem returned. Putting a new second IBS did not help. The car has now been sitting for three weeks at the electromechanic, who unplugged all the modules. He then checked the systems with a meter and it looks like the current draw is still there. Do you have any idea what could be “stealing” the current? Do you deal with such faults?

The problem was with a 2005 BMW 5 E60 with a 251 hp 3-liter engine, but it may also occur in other models.

Response from BM Cars service

Measurements of resting current consumption are very time-consuming, because in special cases they make it necessary to disconnect the consumers. If the measurement is done correctly, after disconnecting all consumers, there may be no current draw.

Particularly after inaccurate sheet metal work, we have to deal with current leakage due to damaged insulation, connection cubes, which secondarily causes a wake-up call to the controllers and the entire vehicle.

For an accurate diagnosis, a full diagnostics of the vehicle is necessary.
