BMW jerking under gentle braking – what is the cause?
BMW driver question
Good morning. I am looking for the cause of the car jerking when gently pressing the brake pedal. I replaced the discs and pads at the rear with new ones – the fault remained. If possible please help.
The problem affected the BMW X3 F25 model, but also occurs in other models.
Response from BM Cars service
The described fault of the vehicle jerking under braking can be caused by many different causes. The most common of these is dislocation of the brake discs at the rear.
The permissible lateral runout of the brake disc should not exceed 0.03 mm. As a result of the very common phenomenon of baked brake calipers, brake discs overheat and become distorted.
An additional element to check when replacing discs are the hubs. Their lateral runout should not be greater than 0.01 mm. Of course, it is also necessary to check the condition of the suspension and any play on their components. It is also worth checking the condition and effectiveness of the damping of shock absorbers.
